Moscow blames Zelensky and the US for killing 50 Ukrainian prisoners

Russia has blamed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the United States (US) for an attack on a prison in Donetsk that killed 50 Ukrainian prisoners, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

“All political and moral responsibility for the bloody massacre against Ukrainians lies with Zelensky personally, his criminal regime and his supporters, Washington,” the report said. “The remains of 48 Ukrainian soldiers were recovered from the rubble. Two more seriously wounded Ukrainian soldiers died on the way to the hospital.

In the eyes of Russia and pro-Russian separatists, the attack on the prison, located in the town of Yelenovka, was carried out by US-supplied HIMARS missiles to Russian troops.

Russian defense spokesman Igor Konashenkov confirmed 50 deaths and 73 wounded in the attack, who were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Ukraine is already a member of the UN. and asked the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to send a mission to Donets to investigate the attack. “The bombing was a cynical act of terrorism on the part of the Russian Federation, a classic false flag operation aimed at military provocation and cover-up of war crimes, discrediting the Ukrainian armed forces and increasing tensions in Ukrainian society,” he said in a statement. In a statement, the army, defense ministry, security services and Ukrainian people’s defender denied that Kiev was behind the attack.
